Innovate UK is part of UK Research and Innovation and their main focus is to help UK businesses grow and scale.
The Innovate UK Plan for Action, outlined in 2021, detailed their vision for the future of the British economy. Aligning firmly with Earlymarket's investment themes, the scope of the Plan for Action focuses on themes within net-zero, health and wellbeing, next generation digital technologies, and breakthrough technologies (i.e. quantum).
A key pillar of their plan to build the future economy is to foster an innovation ecosystem with investors, researchers, businesses, and government bodies. The launch of the Investor Partnerships programme promotes collaboration by bringing together grant funding from Innovate UK and funding and expertise from investor partners.
The model allows SMEs, who are seeking out grant funding for research and development within the future economy scope, to also access capital from investors in order to support and grow their business. This not only allows undercapitalised businesses to scale, but also de-risks technical elements of the business for investors.
