Regrow Borneo is UK-based charity focusing on recreating living, breathing, and complex forests along the Kinabatangan River in Borneo. The support from the Sarah and Patrick Wills Foundation will allow Regrow Borneo to continue their crucial work.
Regrow Borneo was formed at Cardiff University and its core aim is research-led reforestation and carbon sequestration. By working closely with local communities they are also ensuring the sustainable development of the environment, wildlife, and community.
For example, Regrow Borneo are in partnership with the KOPEL Community Ecotourism Co-operative of the Batu Puteh Community. This community represents four local villages and provides alternative livelihoods for local people by supporting their skills development and training. They have already helped support the PhD of one local, Amaziasizamoria Jumail, to investigate the effects of their forest restoration project on biodiversity and carbon stock.
